Industry
MIT's long history of industry relationships has been remarkably fruitful for the Institute and for the industries. See the MIT News Office for stories about recent relationships.
The MIT Industrial Liaison Program (ILP) builds collaborations and relationships between industry and MIT researchers. To establish a relationship with MIT, please contact the ILP office first.
Many MIT researchers have been involved with spin-offs and start-up companies; some related to materials research are listed on this site.
Many MIT students pursue research internships as part of their degree. The DMSE Industrial Internship Program provides students with the opportunity to work in an industrial environment concurrently with his or her academic studies. The student works in an industrial laboratory over two summers and is supervised by both a faculty advisor and an industrial advisor. Care is taken to ensure a more challenging and rewarding experience than is typical of most summer work. Students earn a salary during the work periods as well as academic credit. Upon returning to MIT, the student prepares a project paper which, if properly reported, may be used to satisfy the undergraduate thesis requirement. More information on this program can be obtained from Mr. Joseph Dhosi (jmdhosi(at)mit.edu).
Companies interested in making donations to specific research areas should contact the appropriate headquarters office or an MIT development officer.
